Get-well letters are, perhaps, one of the easier letters to write because they are meant to be very personal. With this said, correspondingly, it is advised to handwrite letters like this, in order to maintain the intimate tone.
Usually, get-well letters are given to friends, family, or colleagues who have been hospitalized or under the weather for a fair amount of time or who have undergone some type of surgery. It isn't very common to send a letter wishing someone to get well soon if the sickness is as minor as a common cold; although there are no rules against doing so if you feel like it.
When writing a get-well letter, always remember to keep it brief, heartfelt and positive. One of the main reasons you’re sending it is to make the recipient happy or feel better despite the circumstances he or she is in. Therefore, avoid mentioning anything that could offend or dishearten the person reading it.
Aside from extending your well wishes, it is also a good idea to remind your reader that you are available to support him or her during this trying period. But, of course, only mention something like that if you actually mean it.
A good closing for a get-well letter is to express your hopes for the recipient’s speedy recovery. You can also include flowers or balloons when sending your letter to further cheer up the person who is sick. Always keep in mind that timeliness is extremely important when sending a get-well letter as it loses its effectiveness if you send it too late.
